I didn’t realize some insurance companies offer insurance for service animals that are discounted and/or free for veterans. If you have a Service Animal, please register them for insurance as soon as possible. If you didn’t get one specifically from an agency, but trained them yourselves you might not know about some of the benefits until it’s too late.. like myself. I’ve spent thousands to keep my SA alive and when things got tough I had to go without or chose the least expensive option.
My heart breaks because I’ve done research and called many places, but no one would work with me on insurance. Today I found an article that was nearly a decade old about a company providing free care for veteran’s SA. I called and the gent mentioned I was the first vet he ever spoken to about insurance for an SA. He provided me with helpful information and was really nice.
If you or your loved one has served, please take care of your SA to the best of your ability (without breaking the bank).
Your Animal will need to become registered on the VA’s side before they can officially enroll you but it may not be through the “prosthetic/orthopedic” department as it mentions on the site, so check with your primary care or social worker. For us, it might be a little too late, but I hope this information reaches someone who also didn’t know.
